 What does BC Rehab do? Our goal is simple 


Our mission is to support people with disabilities through education, research, arts, recreation and wellness programs. We celebrate and support people with disabilities in their determined efforts to strive towards their own form of independence.

Our efforts are entirely supported through gifts from individual donors, business and organizations of British Columbia and beyond. A planned giving program is also in place.

Kids on the Block 2008 – BC Rehab once again supported the Kids on the Block Program. As more kids living with disabilities are integrated into mainstream school system, the program helps fellow students understand difference and similarities

BC Wheelchair Basketball – to support the 2008 Canadian National Wheelchair Basketball Championships for Men and Women

BC Rehab PT CruiserBC Rehab PT Cruiser – BC Rehab asked associations around British Columbia who support people living with physical disabilities to submit a proposal on why their organization deserves our PT Cruiser.Technology for the Independent Living (TIL) were named the winners at the BC Rehabs 2007 Standing Ovation Awards. (as seen right)

YWCA Pool Lift – BC Rehab Funded a portable wheelchair lift for YWCA Health and Wellness Centre in Vancouver.

Solutions 2007 Student Design Competition – BC Rehab funded the 2007 Student Design Competition that brings together university and technical institutes to develop truly innovative designs for people living with physical disabilities

Vancouver Adaptive Snow Sports – to support the Sit Ski program. This program helps people who have difficulties with standing and are unable to ski standing up.

Disabled Gardeners Association – BC Rehab funded the Disabled Gardeners Association to help people with significant physical disabilities to become involved in gardening again.

GF Strong’s Adolescent and Young Adult Program’s Parent Support Group –BC Rehab funded the Parents Support Group for parents to discuss issues they face as parents of adolescents with physical and cognitive disabilities.

The BC Association for Individualized Technology and Support for People with Disabilities TIL – BC Rehab funded the Door Opener program which will help individuals acquire automatic entry systems.

British Columbia Mobility Opportunities Society (BCMOS) – BC Rehab funded individuals with disabilities to go to BCMOS Soaring program. Soaring is where individuals go into a glider plane with no engine and soar back down to the ground. BC Rehab had no problem funding a hoyer lift when we found out they were having problems getting individuals into the gliders.

2007 Pacific Coast Brain Injury Conference – BC Rehab helped sponsor the 20th Anniversary of the annual Pacific Brain Injury Conference. The 3 day event offers world-class presentations and workshops on issues related to persons with Acquired Brain Injuries.

Diaphragmatic Pacer – A new technology which provided a client at GF Strong the ability to breath independently.

GF Strong Amputee Support and Education Group – BC Rehab funded trainees from Quebec to come to Vancouver to Train-the-Trainers at GF Strong.

BC Mobility Opportunities Society “Standing Spirit Project” – BC Rehab helped fund the Standing Spirit Project which will document the first quadriplegic to finish the West Coast Trail.

BC Aphasia Centre –BC Rehab provide support to the BC Aphasia Centre to strengthen their organization.

Power to Be – BC Rehab helped fund the Brain Injury: Youth and Family Project. This will enable families and participants to discover their abilities, strengths and increase their self-confidences.

Disabled Sailing Association – BC Rehab will help sponsor The 2006 Mobility Cup

Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation – BC Rehab helped fund a pressure mapping system assessment tool for healthcare professionals to assist in prevention of pressure wounds.

Zajac Foundation Summer of 2006 –BC Rehab funded children with physical disabilities to attend camp over the summer.

Easter Seals Canada – BC Rehab pledged Dustin Paul to rappel down the side of a building in a wheelchair in the efforts to fund the Easter Seals, Children with Physical Disabilities.

Powell River Therapeutic Riding Association – BC Rehab helped make the Powell River Therapeutic Riding Association wheelchair accessible.

The Kamloops & District Society for People in Motion – Para Transit Bus Replacement Project.

Solutions 2006 Student Design Competition – BC Rehab funded the 2006 Student Design Competition that brings together university and technical institutes to develop truly innovative designs for people living with physical disabilities.

Drivers Assessment, lessons, vehicular modifications – BC Rehab funded independence by helping people get back to driving themselves.

Research Awards – BC Rehab annually recognizes, with two $15,000 grants, the clinical work of rehab professionals whose innovative research will lead to new and better treatment.

Disabled Gardeners Association – BC Rehab funded the Disabled Gardeners Association to help people with significant physical disabilities to become involved in gardening again.

Kelowna Equipment Trailer – BC Rehab helped purchase an equipment trailer for Kelowna's Community Recreation Initiatives Society, opening up the outdoors again for people who love to hike.

Solutions 2005 Student Design Competition – BC Rehab funded the 2005 Student Design Competition that brings together university and technical institutes to develop truly innovative designs for people living with physical disabilities.

Cowichan Therrapeutic Riding Association – BC Rehab helped fund the renovations and relocation of the outdoor riding ring.

Vancouver Parks & Recreation – BC Rehab funded Vancouver Parks & Recreation program that provided young adults with physical disabilities the opportunity to develop their knowledge of community recreation in a casual social setting.

Mid Island Wheelchair Sport Club – BC Rehab helped purchase wheelchairs to start a Junior Wheelchair Basketball program in Nanaimo.

Cowichan Valley Disabled Sailing Association – BC Rehab funded sailing equipment – sails/boat for this organization to allow persons with disabilities to enjoy sailing as a recreational sport.

Wheelchair Race Series Society – BC Rehab purchased special stationary rollers for wheelchair racing athletes to train indoors.

Power to Be – BC Rehab funded a camping trip for persons living with acquired brain injury on Vancouver Island.

Argo Assessment Orthopaedic Unit – BC Rehab purchased specialty equipment for GF Strong Rehab Centre to allow Spinal Cord Program Physiotherapists to determine standing abilities of clients.

Gorge Road Hospital – BC Rehab funded a recreational program for clients at Gorge Road Hospital in Victoria.

Research Awards – BC Rehab sponsors rehabilitation research awards annually.

Chilliwack YMCA – BC Rehab purchased special equipment for persons with disabilities to utilize the Chilliwack Y. This was specifically for those who had suffered strokes.

Royal Inland Hospital –BC Rehab purchased special equipment for the rehabilitation program at Royal Inland Hospital. View photo...

Canadian Rehab Nurses Certificate Program – BC Rehab sponsored the Canadian Rehabilitation Nurses Certificate Program. Previously nurses had to be certified in the United States.

Individual Assistance – BC Rehab allocates tens of thousands of dollars to assist in the unmet daily needs of people with physical disabilities who do not have resources. We purchase everything from bathing suits for therapy, dental care, cell phone holders for wheelchairs to specialty cushions and orthotics and all needs that allow a person to become independent and integrated. Whistler Disabled Ski Association –BC Rehab sponsored the development of a new accessible chair lift on Whistler Mountain.

GF Strong – BC Rehab updated the Spinal Cord Injury Library at GF Strong Rehab Centre

Zajac Ranch – BC Rehab partnered with the Zajac Foundation to build The Zajac Ranch. Set on the shores of Stave Lake just north of Mission BC, the Ranch is designed to build self-esteem, confidence and quality of life. Its objective is to simply “raise the spirits” of children with life threatening illness.

Kelowna Community Recreation Initiatives Society – BC Rehab purchased a TrailRider–a revolutionary, unique, one-wheeled vehicle that carries people with disabilities who want to hike to places never before accessible. It is manually powered by two able-bodied ‘sherpas’–one who pulls and one who pushes.
