Summer relay across British Columbia to raise funds for BC Rehab
Vancouver, BC — On 16 August 2004, Sukhi and Justyna will begin a seven day non-stop Relay of Hope across British Columbia. These women, both local university students, hope to raise funds to support BC Rehab and spread good will throughout BC’s communities. Both Sukhi and Justyna will be running and cycling across the province to improve the quality of life for British Columbians living with physical disabilities. Last year, a friend of Sukhi’s suffered a near fatal accident leaving him with a physical disability. After following him through the rehab process and seeing the many needs he would have to return home, she wanted to help out. She decided to relay across BC, fundraising for rehabilitation. “The first relay was such a rewarding experience,” says Sukhi. “Justyna and I want to continue to help BC Rehab and so we will make the Relay of Hope an annual fundraising event in our province.” Both Sukhi and Justyna are inspired by the thousands of determined people living with physical disabilities within BC as they strive towards independence. And as last year’s relay proved, these women inspired thousands of British Columbians. They were showered with money from passing cars and after a long day of running and riding, they received greetings from mayors and local media to show appreciation for all that they are doing to help BC Rehab. BC Rehab is the only non-profit registered charity that supports — through funding and advocacy — adults and adolescents with a broad range of physical disabilities from arthritis to spinal cord injury throughout British Columbia.
