A thank you letter from the Community Recreational Initiatives Society in Kelowna.

Dear BC Rehab:

On behalf of the Community Recreational Initiatives Society and persons with disabilities, we would like to thank you for your support. Your contribution will go to further alleviate the restrictive access and opportunities people with disabilities face in their quest to enjoy the outdoors.

The assistance of acquiring a Trailrider through the support of BC Rehab is a great example of the strong community bond we share. The organization and participants are very excited about our new Trailrider as it brings us one step closer to meeting the dreams of all people with disabilities.

With support from BC Rehab, the ALS research team Kathleen Beggs, Marcia Choi and Dr. Andrew Travlos are assessing and predicting successful tube placement outcomes in clients with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

BC Rehab is also supporting the Research for WalkAide2 Project. People with strokes are 10 times as likely to fall and break a bone. Improving balance is a high priority. Dr. Janice Eng and her colleagues know that the WalkAide2, a small device that electrically stimulates ankle muscles to lift the foot as the leg swings during walking, improves walking speed. With support from BC Rehab, they are investigating whether it also helps with balance.
